"You do realize that the Z8 rejects some official Nikon batteries, too?
As I've reported, an EN-EL15 labeled Li-ion01 won't work in the Z8, but EN-EL15 labeled Li-ion20 will. Nikon made several fundamental changes to the EN-EL15 since it first appeared many years ago, and those are all reported via the S pin on the battery to the camera.
The Z8 requires specific battery parameters to be present. Third party batteries reverse engineer Nikon's battery communications, just as they do Nikon's flash communications. When you reverse engineer, small changes in specification can trip you up.
We've seen this pattern repeat over and over again with pretty much all the Nikon batteries, but also with other camera makers, as well. The reason that Nikon gets called out more often than the others is that they've been more consistent with batteries, really only using two types for their upper end cameras for well over a decade now. Both the EN-EL15 has appeared in four named variations, the EN-EL18 in five. The EN-EL15 has had additional sub-variations.
A battery that is not designed to apply the exact voltage/amperage the camera requires can overheat or underperform. Overheating a battery is bad. Underperforming is bad because the electrical circuitry may then not be reliable."
